Death Of Benjamin F. Beebe At Concord
Came To Contra Costa in 1863 And Has Resided Here Ever Since

Benjamin F. Beebe, an old and respected citizen of Concord died at an early hour Monday morning and was buried in Pacheco Tuesday.

The deceased was born in Frankfort, Herkimer County, New York, September 3, 1830 (date is correct), and there received a common school education and resided until fifteen years of age When eighteen he served an apprentice at the wheelwrights trade in the town of Washington's Mills, in which he continued for four years. After going to Albany and remaining there for eight years he went to Oneida County and entered the employ of Amos Rodgers & Co., machinists, and remained with them until them until their failure in 1862.

In the year 1863 he starts for California by way of the Isthmus of Panama arriving in San Francisco on June 29th. After a short stay in the metropolis he came to Contra Costa County and first found employment at Pacheco where he worked until 1865. He then engaged in farming and then in 1868 purchased a farm about a quarter of a mile out of Concord. He was also engaged in the mercantile business under the firm name of Navis & Beebe. The deceased also served as a member of the Board of Supervisors and made a creditable record.
